Reducing piles, decisions, decisions
The good news is that, after a concentrated effort over the weekend, I now only have six outstanding queries, and two outstanding full scripts to make decisions about.
I write ‘make decisions’ rather than ‘read’ because reading is only the beginning of the process. I read, and then I percolate.
Sometimes decisions come quickly, that is, when there is an obvious reason why the submission is not for me. Or when I just love the writing so much I can just visualise the book on a bookseller’s shelves, dancing before my eyes.
A good proportion of material falls between the two. The writing is good, but something is missing and I can’t immediately decide. Once I can put my finger on it, then I can make a judgment about whether it is fixable.
